Welcome
to TAPBA:
WELCOME FORM TAPBA PRESIDENT
CHARLES W. WHITE, III
Welcome to the 2012 TAPBA Continuing Education Class. This year brings new challenges to the bail industry. States are searching for budget cuts and revenue increases at all levels of government. For that reason, all bail agents must be involved in local politics and government. With Tennessee having 95 counties and 31 districts, TAPBA needs your help and cooperation in order to stay up-to-date on what is happening within the bail industry in your area. We have approximately 1500 agents statewide and can certainly be a political force throughout Tennessee if each agent contributes his or her part.
Two key items require our attention in 2012. First, as always, 10% to the court which, by the way, has replaced pre-trial release as the number one threat nationwide to the bail industry. With all of the budget cuts over the past two years, local government has looked to bail as a means to generate revenue, i.e. 10% to the court along with other release methods. Second is the Citizens Right to Know bill which will reveal all records in regard to pre-trial and other tax payer funded programs in Tennessee.
The TAPBA Board of Directors continues to request your help and input. All company owners and agents must share their knowledge and suggestions with each other and with TAPBA on local issues and programs within the state. Keeping in touch with our members, company owners and agents is a priority for our Board.
Thank you,
CHARLES W. WHITE, SR. President TAPBA
